I can’t believe this internship is almost over. It has been such an amazing experience/opportunity to be able to come out here t0 Mystic CT, to work here at the Mystic Seaport Museum. I have learned so many different things here that I will never forget, as well as made so many connections. The semester long course here William’s Mystic has been fun to learn about, as well as gain knowledge so that I can possibly take it.

This week I got to enjoy working at the Disco barn one of the attractions the Museum has to offer. It is a hands on learning for both adults and children. Right in the middle of the room are my favorite work stations. One displayed in the pictures is the flow tank. It shows how water id displaced by different hull designs and how water moves around boats differently. Some sleeker designs cut through the water which in turn would make boats move faster through the water however some boats have a bulkier, boxier design which would give more stability but loss in speed sometimes.

The other is a setup that shows/explains to kids and adults the way the wind moves off of a sail. Different angles that the sail is put at can determine how full the sail is and how fast you will be moving as well as the wind direction. In order to know what angle to put the sail at you much know from which direction the wind is coming and if you are wanting to go into the wind by being close hauled or with the wind and running.

I also got the opportunity to hang with some friends this week. We went to Foxwoods mall here and got to go go cart racing on a rainy day here in Mystic. The average speed of the cars were about 25 MPH and it was a huge track, one that I have never seen before. I also got to go sailing again and I believe that I am really getting the hang of it, learning how to use the wind to my advantage and not work harder then I have to when I can just let the sheet out a little bit and still gain speed.
