This week Caroline and I have been working independently, since Andrew is in Guatemala working on satellites. Caroline has been learning how to program and code her Arduino. I, on the other hand, have been watching tutorials on SOLIDWORKS to familiarize myself with the computer program. There are three important aspects to designing an object: a part, assembly, and a drawing. Parts have to be created individually, so parts such as screws, bolts, and metal plates. After they’re created I have to mate them in SOLIDWORKS and make an assembly. The only problem we have encountered, is that there is only one computer with SOLIDWORKS on it. That computer has been sealed in a room where the construction workers are welding. In other words, I have to stick to tutorials for the time being. Good thing they finish welding there this week!

These are some trinkets that were gifted to us by Scott Palo, the supervisor of the lab.

Pictured here is yours truly, taking notes.

This week in Boulder we visited the Dushanbe Teahouse! It’s so colorful and has many symmetrical mosaics. Another shop of interest is called Zuni. It’s has authentic Native American treasures. They have wildlife novelty items, and genuine Native American flutes. It’s so interesting to see the different cultures integrate into a single city, and simultaneously view them expressing themselves. It makes me realize that America is truly a place for all.

This is our order of a unique white tea that flowers.

Everything within this case is bear themed and made of a precious precious gem/rock.

This week was our nation’s Independence Day. Our host family took us to a quaint but antique town: Gold Hill. Caroline and I ate blueberry pancakes with bacon, visited a museum, and went to a block party with the family. We also got candy from the parade that Jean, Eben, Quinn, and Shea were in! Jean and Eben were dressed as beekeepers, while Quinn and Shea were bees! Later on we watched the fireworks entwine with the lighting. I’d say it was a day to remember.

New friends made: still working on that!
