Hello, I am Ian Snapp, a high school junior in Ridgway, Colorado, who has a passion for all things STEAM. One such passion is mycology, the study of the fungal kingdom, which I have been exploring in my freetime over the last couple of years.

My strongest attribute is my curiosity, which has guided me through life, helping me develop throughout school via college/AP classes, my part-time job, and whatever side interests I have at the moment. Currently, I’m working on developing an automated mushroom-growing apparatus (meant to sound excessive) and implementing a vermiculture composter. Before I graduate from high school, I hope to finish building this system to help provide my family with a source of food while reducing their ecological footprint.

As for my other interests, I love spending time with my family and friends, whether that involves watching a movie, playing a game, or just hanging out. Along with that, I am usually pursuing some subject that has piqued my interest, whether it’s developing film or learning about making bread; all these experiences are valuable to me. Additionally, I enjoy anything that gets me outside of the norm, such as traveling somewhere new or going out camping. It is nice to get out of my comfort zone and “rough it” when I can.

This is an example of how gourmet mushrooms are grown industrially. The mushroom pictured is a species of Oyster mushroom, which isn’t psychoactive but eaten instead as a great source of protein. The source for the picture was from an article discussing a farm in the UK, which should be linked via the picture.
