This week was exciting! I began the creation of my yoyo in earnest. I learned how to create Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) programs. This allowed me to use the large, 3-axis Fryer milling machines to begin machining my yoyos. I learned how to choose the correct tool, speed, and feed for a given operation, and how to choose the best operation for a given feature. I then had to transfer the CAM file into g-code, a machine readable file format.

Then I had to learn to how to safely use the machine, and ensure that nothing would break. I machined out the beginnings of the yoyo.

I also used the lathe to create the beginnings of the weight rings that are going to be on the yoyo to increase stability and spin time.

Next week, in my final week, I will complete the yoyos, largely on the lathe. I also began to make a model rocket that I will be launching on Tuesday. This weekend was also fun. I spent some time exploring the mountain bike trails in Boulder, thanks to the weather finally not being rainy.
