This has been my third week of studying Astro Physics at LASP. This past week Loudon and I finished our CAD model of the Flat-sat. After making our modal we went to the machine shop to drill the holes. We made the holes using a mill, that measured out each hole within a 1000th of an inch. the mill could not reach every hole on our Flat-sat box, so we ended up drilling the rest by hand. By Friday we had finished drilling all the holes and found the fasteners that will hold the Flat-sat components in place. The box and the fasteners all needed to be cleaned so as to not disrupted the mechanics in the Flat-sat. We put all the screws and bolts into an ultrasonic cleaner and left them there over the weekend. next week we should begin assembling the Flat-sat. On Friday, Brian, one of the lead scientists on the sprite mission turned 40! The team had a surprise party for him in the afternoon. There was a pirate ship cake, snacks, and sea shanties. Overall it was a great end to a great week. Outside of work Loudon and I have been climbing and hiking, as well as jumping in the river. This week has been a blast and I can’t believe is halfway done.
