This week I got a taste for different specialties like general. I saw two hernia repairs one endoscopic and one open. A closed procedure is sometimes preferable but it depends on the severity of the tear. The open hernia repair was much worse it had way more tears and they removed the entire lining and put in mesh. The hernia developed next to an old surgical scar which is usually the case. These can develop when doing lots of activities or lifting heavy objects. In the endoscopic one, they use long tools attached to the little camera and they have to use the slightest movements. This week a man stabbed himself and then his wife. Both were rushed to the hospital where the man was saved but not the wife. Medicine is complicated and doctors have to put aside their feelings. This man had to be protected by guards in the hospital.
