Hi all!! Welcome back to my weekly blog post. Just to refresh, I am working on a farm here in Durango, CO with fellow pintern Michael Price.

Monday we started our week off by harvesting and processing most things for CSA on Tuesday. First we harvested a whole variety of vegetables like collards, red russian kale, and scallions. The rest of the afternoon, after lunch we worked in the washroom processing all the produce, I bunched broccoli.

checklist in the washroom for everything we need to harvest, how many, and if it’s been processed

Tuesday was a super chill day on the farm. We started with planting baby lettuce and micro weeding baby carrots. One of the main weeds on the farm is Sal Thistle. Which is a super annoying weed to get out because you have to get the whole root out in order for the weed to not grow back, and the stem breaks super easily. After lunch I boxed all the produce for CSA with Morgan, and Micheal comes over with,

A giant puffball mushroom!!!

Which was growing in the sheep pasture right outside the farm. After this exciting incident we finished micro weeding, and packed up Morgan’s truck to deliver CSA.

Wednesday is Michael and I’s day off. It was a very chill day just watching the Pirates of the Caribbean movies with Tatiana. For those of you who don’t know that name, she is my host sister who I’m staying with here in Durango.

Thursday we were back on the farm and harvested the last of the peas. And finished a hard weeding project in the carrot bed. After lunch we checked on the newly direct seeded produce of last week. The new baby arugula geminated beautifully. We put in arch poles over the rows so the veggies can grow while still being covered. We also used a small hoe for the small weeds just starting to grow in the new rows.

After the farm me and Tatiana went on a super fun adventure with our friends Evan and Landon. We went to some natural hot springs in-between Durango and Pagosa. It was about a 40 minute walk down a super muddy trail to the river.

Fridays are always fun days at the farm. Michael brought in zucchini bread and, one of our coworkers, Carrie made blueberry cookie things. Both were so yummy! We started off by harvesting curly kale, tuscan kale, rainbow chard, collards, and beans all for market on Saturday. After all the harvesting we processed all the produce by bagging, bunching, and putting beans in cartons.

Friday was my moms birthday, so on Saturday I met my family in Silverton after the went over Ophir pass. We went out for lunch and just waked around. It was nice to see them and I got to see my dog, Bindi! Thanks for reading and I’ll see you again next week!
