My name is Kaizer Gorraiz. I am a 2021 Pinhead intern. My internship is based on finance and business. I have been in Columbus, Ohio for 2 weeks learning from Doug Stotlar. Doug was the CEO of Con-way Freight and he is also part of a private equity firm.

This last week was AMAZING! Doug had some of his friends come out to Ohio and stay for a couple of nights and it was like having a house full of teachers. Not only did I get to learn a lot from Doug but everyone else there was also helping to teach me. It was really nice because if I had a question I could have 3 different ways the answer was phrased making it a lot more easy to comprehend things.

We covered stocks and bonds this week. I learned a lot about different types of bonds and different stocks. We started the week by covering all the kinds of stocks and bonds. We also covered what different jobs in companies look like. We went over 10-k, 10-q, 8-k, and proxy statements as well. I learned a lot about how businesses have certain obligations to their stakeholders and how these stakeholders have certain obligations to the companies. We covered the most effective ways to invest your money and how important it is to know a lot about the companies you invest in.

Overall this week was phenomenal and it’s sad that it was my last week in Ohio. We had a really good balance of work and play and I met a lot of really amazing people. Doug took us skeet shooting with one of his friends Mitch. It was so fun! I’ve never laughed so hard in my whole life. The whole day was full of joking around and just having fun. We got home for dinner and we dove right back into internship things.

On our last day there we helped Doug’s nephew move into his new apartment. (–>)

We drove home from Columbus. It was a 22-hour drive and we stopped in Limon, Colorado for the night and we slept 6 hours and then kept driving. It was really fun because in the car I learned how portfolio managers invest other people’s money to minimize risk and maximize return depending on where you are in life.  It was a really amazing internship and I am so grateful to all the people at pinhead for making this possible, Doug Stotlar for teaching me so much, and to the whole Stotlar family for making it a truly memorable experience.
