Hard to believe I only have two weeks of my internship left. So far it has been an amazing experience. This week was another short work week because of the holiday. On Monday and Tuesday, I helped one of the engineers take measurements on one of the models. The model was of the Ridgeway dam morning glory spillway. He was measuring the depth of the water around the hole at different flow rates.

Wednesday I was one of the only interns working as everyone else left for the 4th. All employees had early dismissal that day so it was only a half-day. For this reason, we decided to do something fun with one of the models. We used the Ridgeway dam model and filled it so that the morning glory hole made a small vortex.

We were experimenting to see what the vortex could suck down and what it couldn’t. This video shows some wooden X’s that we through in that got sucked down. We also threw in rubber ducks, sticks, and action figures. It was a cool thing to observe.

This week I did a lot of stuff outside of work. I went mini-golfing with my host family which was a blast. The place we went to had three different courses. Some of them were pretty challenging.

I also went on a hike in red rocks. This hike was super fun and nice. The weather was perfect and it was super beautiful out.

Later on, after the hike, I went with my Uncle and cousin to the 4th of July Denver Outlaws Lacrosse game. The weather during the game wasn’t the best but it was a really good game.

The game ended super late because there were a bunch of severe lightning delays. The Outlaws ultimately won which was great. After the game, there was a huge fireworks show in the stadium. It was one of the best firework shows I have ever seen. That was basically all I did this week. It was a super fun week and I can’t wait for work next week.
