Hello again! Week 2 of my internship has gone by really fast. We had a short week because the lab had a 4 day break because of 4th of July which was really cool. In the few days in the lab we finished up the remainder of our paperwork so we could finally be able to handle the rats in the experiments. Also most of what we did was to set up for the following weeks experiments. We helped set up a new experiment that is starting Monday which is a follow up project on whether or not rats will choose drugs over food. A previous study showed that the rats will choose food every time but Giordano is leading an experiment in the lab to either solidify the argument or prove it wrong depending on his results. Since it was such a short week we didn’t do too much but help with the experiments and set up for next week but it was still productive.

I also got to learn some more about brain scans in rats from another Ph.D. in the office named Adam. Danika and I helped him and Sierra get blood samples from the rats before they get put down and get surgery for their brains. His work is really interesting to me and I hope to continue learning more from him later. Right now he’s particularly busy because he’s on the verge of publishing a paper and is in the process of revising it. Next week a lot is going to start happening at once and it will be fun to be apart of. For extra curriculars this week I went out to pacific beach for a day which was really pretty and I also ate at one of the best burger joints on the beach. The cheeseburger I ate tasted amazing and the view was stellar. The weather has been beautiful lately and its been nice to go outside and take advantage of it.
