The Maxwells

This week my mentor, Dale, was away at a conference. I was unable to work with him on the operations part of MAVEN, so I spent the week in the SPSC, the space science research building, working with the data obtained from MAVEN looking for evidence of aurorae in the UV spectrum of the Martian atmosphere.

I parsed through about 5,000 sets of data, and found just under 150 separate

instances of aurorae spread across three years. I also worked a little bit in several of the engineering labs, mostly in one of the UltraViolet Dark Labs, which is for the testing of UV detectors and the instruments.

Next week Dale will be back, but I expect to continue working in the science building on various projects, as well as my work in operations. This week was also the last week I spent with my first host family, the Maxwells. They have been an amazing host family, and I can’t wait to see them again.
