Hi my name is Aidan Green. About a week ago I landed in Miami to begin my four-week long internship with the architectural firm Borges + Associates.

When I landed my host family’s son,

Kevin, picked me up at the airport and took me to their beautiful house. That night I toured around the neighborhood with him.

Since then a lot has happened. I started my internship on Monday and it has been a flood of information. I have been reading about sea level rise and how it could affect the infrastructure of the Miami area and the rest of the coastal communities around the world. The internship has been a great learning experience so far, and the people in the office are really nice. All of my co-workers are native Spanish speakers so they speak Spanish first, followed by English, and it has been a great opportunity to practice my Spanish.

In the mornings to get to the office in downtown Miami/Brickell area I walk to a trolley where I wait. Once the trolley comes it takes me to my stop, which is about two blocks away from my building. The office is nice inside and from the conference room you can see Miami bay. It is very pretty and the climate is great. A little on the hot side for a mountain boy who does not like humidity, but it is great!!

So far I have not explored much of Miami or the area but I have done plenty of new and interesting things. Throughout the week I have gone to lunch meetings with my boss, sailed around the bay of Miami, and went to architectural exhibits created by the youth.

Miami has been great to me so far and I am sure there is a lot more in store for me to learn and visit.

Architecture, speaking Spanish, Learning about the rising of the oceans , and being in a new place out side your normal environment, all sounds wonderful and exciting.
