The ATLAS drone

I have been placed in Stillwater, Oklahoma for the summer, interning under Mr. Ben Loh for aerospace engineering. Ben has a degree in aerospace engineering, and is currently completing graduate school. His grad project was to design and build a drone that could fly indoors without damaging the drone, or its nearby surrounding. When he presented the idea of ATLAS, Oklahoma State University started a company, with Ben, to produce his ATLAS drone. The company they created is called Unmanned Cowboys. The purpose of ATLAS is to provide firefighters and other EMS services with a safe and effective way to perform search and rescue.

So far, the first week of this internship has been an amazing experience. I have learned how to solder, how to design things on a CAD program called Solid Works, how to use a 3D printer, and how drones, and helicopters in general, function.

The guys I am working with have been very helpful and kind, and have also taught me high-leveled concepts in ways that are easy to understand. I look forward to spending the rest of the summer here.
