Hi im Karis Varner interning at Harold L. Dorris Neuroscience Center and so far its been a great week, only two weeks left of my internship. I was asked by two other people to start working with them and i’m excited for that, trying a different side of an experiment and lab and thursday I get to work on more mice and profusion, profusion is an interesting  thing, using a machine that uses two different fluids and to empty the mice of there blood and contract their muscles   for this to work you need to cut the tip of the right ventral and put the needles into the left atrium after you have cut open the mice and taken out the ribs, I would love to show a photo but I feel like it would be too sensitive for certian Audience viewers, i’m even hesitant to show the removed and cleared organs because of this but Im finding plenty full things that I can show you guys.  Wednesday was fun I got to work with another two that day using gel electrophoresis to pull different sizes of DNA into the jelly block  we did this twice one in the morning and another in the afternoon. The processes it very interesting you have you DNA you pipepet into the tiny wells, after we have all of the DNA in you put in a ladder dye we used purple and you only need a little bit of the dye on the first well and last well, you put on a cap making sure the positive and negative chargers are where they are supposed to go and have the wells on the side where the negative charge it if it was on the positive side it will pull the DNA outwards. DNA has a negative charge and attracts to a positive one and when the machine is going it has both a negative and positive charge making the DNA go threw. my cover image is the image we took using UV lights to see the DNA much more clearer.
