Hello everyone! My name is Taylor LaRose and this was my first week at my internship at the UC Santa Barbara. I started later in the week as I arrived Tuesday and took the day to get ready. I met my roommate and fellow intern Amiyah Ogo and explored the area around the apartment.

Wednesday was my first day at the internship. I met my mentor Kristen Michaud who is a graduate student. Her project is identifying clams in ecosystems and learning how they affect their environment (the settling of sediment, displacement of larvae, etc.) As it was my first day I learned the basis of the project and how to work the identification system. Kristen had me identify boring clams (clams that dig into rock and live there). She taught me how to identify, Chaceia ovoidea the bigger species, and Parapholas californica . She also taught me about the small pholads that we would be identifying.

Thursday was the same work as Wednesday, reviewing images and identifying the clams. I worked for a couple hours then went to the University Center for lunch. I managed to get an entire folder of the images done until the system shut down and I was free to go home. I took the opportunity to explore campus and look at their Bioengineering building which was really cool.

Friday the system was up and running again so I continued my work. I just went through each of the images I had completed to see if there were any clams I missed. After I finished I came back to the apartment and hung out.

Saturday and Sunday I called my friends and found trails to run around the apartment. I also took a walk along the beach.
