Hello, my name is Logan Stephens, and I’m from Telluride, Colorado. For the past six weeks, I have been doing an internship in the chemistry department at UH. This past week was my sixth and final week of the internship. I spent my last hours at the lab making my presentation that I eventually presented to the whole group on Friday. My original project at the beginning of the internship was to study electroreductive desorption of monolayers on gold surfaces which basically means I was studying what happens to thin layers of molecules when voltage is applied and then reversed. Unfortunately, due to complications with our electrolytic cell, we were not able to collect any data. With that being said, my presentation ended up being a brief summary of what I did and what I learned over the course of my internship.

Baldelli’s Study Group (and me)

Overall, I am very pleased and appreciative of the outcome of this internship. During these past six weeks, I have learned more than I ever thought I could about chemistry, university environments, and the scientific process in general. I’d like to thank Dr. Baldelli for letting me mess around in his lab for a month and a half, and I’d especially like to thank Sarah Holbrooke because I never would’ve gotten this opportunity without her input.
