This week I continued my work with Nat and her MEMS project. The testing went by much quicker because we were able to get a rhythm down. The changes, if any, had to have resulted from heating up the MEMS mirror using a heat lamp, but luckily there were only slight changes. The results from this week and last week’s testing showed us that there were no significant changes, thus the MEMS mirror is a good tool to be used in the making of telescopes. This test, however, was to just show how the MEMS mirror would work in a heated environment, the next step of testing Nat is planning on doing is a linear test. We got started on that this week as well and have finished one set of testing. Nat and I will work on that next week as well and perhaps even finish it the upcoming week too.

I also started working with Dmitry on building a 3D printer. So far we haven’t had any troubles with that, though there are a lot of pieces to work with. I have never built a 3D printer but I do have a small amount of experience using one, so I’m hoping that will help. The instructions are confusing at times but Dmitry helps to lessen the confusion. At times, he is the one that is confused and I help explain things. The instructions claim that this printer can be finished in one week, but I’m not so sure. It might take us a week and a half but we are also making fast progress. We have a little bit more than the frame done but it is coming along.

For the weekend I decided to head down to the BC Surf and Sport shop and bought a skateboard to start practicing. I also decided to head down to the Scott Carpenter Park and just practice my portrait drawings.

I hope next week, Dmitry and I can finish building the printer.
