Hello everyone! Last week featured my internship accelerating in speed! I began talking with new organizations about possible oral history collection candidates, and I’m narrowing in on the person who will be able to contribute their history to History Colorado, a Smithsonian affiliate. I used the word “collection” this week, rather than “interview”. This is due to a conversation I had with my supervisor, the Curator of Oral Histories at History Colorado, Rachael Beyer. Rachael was telling me that she prefers to use the word “collection” rather than “interview”, because I’m not actively participating in the actual conversation the way someone conducting an interview does. Rather than just answering questions, the person I’ll talk with is really sharing their entire story. This requires a totally different vocabulary to be used from when you are merely looking from someone’s opinion on something. Thus, “collection” is a more fitting word; and I’m definitely looking forward to the actual collection process that’s coming soon!

In my personal life, I went hiking in Telluride, CO at Bridal Veil falls, which was absolutely wonderful. I know what you’re thinking, “Isn’t that what he said he did LAST week?” But, if you’ll recall, my hike last week had to be postponed due to rain, something I was able to avoid this week! The views were beautiful, and well worth the journey!
