Hello everyone! This past week was my sixth week of my internship. I wasn’t able to meet with my mentor on Monday as I usually do, but I continued to record information until I could. On Wednesday, I had a Zoom call with my mentor. She told me that we will be writing a paper about the data we’ve found so far. She asked which aspects of the data I would like to focus on. I am excited to work on the paper and continue collecting data on turtle sales. Because this data collection will continue, the CCITT will be able to see trends in the information across the involved states.

Throughout my internship, the way my fellow intern and I have recorded information has varied. Because of this, my mentor spent time showing me how to make the data consistent by using Microsoft Excel. This way, I can efficiently categorize findings in the same way. She also taught me how to make a pivot graph to see the data. I will be working on making the information consistent before we begin the paper.

I also talked to my mentor about my college plans. I had been planning to major in Zoology, but it isn’t very available. She advised me to consider majoring in Biology and staying involved in classes and internships related to wildlife conservation. I am glad to have advice on pursuing a career in conservation.

Outside of my internship, my family and I took a road trip to Parker, Colorado to visit family.
