Hey everyone! My name is Caitlin Ogoe and I’m interning at the Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics (LASP) this summer though Pinhead! These first two weeks have been difficult, but fantastic. The conditions of the beginning of my Internship were interesting. COVID-19 derailed my original plans as it did for so many others. I was lucky that it only interrupted my summer plans, and nothing else, but I was still pretty bummed out. Then Sarah reached out to me a couple of weeks ago, telling me about an opportunity at LASP. I was immediately excited, and rightfully so. My first week began with a meet and greet via everyone’s new favorite application, Zoom. I met with the others who were going through the LASP training, as well as my mentor, David. We got started on our first project, creating a Linux environment for development. It was incredibly fun to finally work in a Linux environment, as I can now be finally entered into the Cool Club! We then started on our first coding projects, one of which I’m still working on. So far, I’ve already learned a ton, and I’m looking forward to the rest of this training.

My Virtual Linux Machine!

In terms of my extracurricular activities, these last two weekends I’ve traveled a bit around the Montrose Area. I went down to Marble to marvel at McClure pass, otherwise, social-distancing has kept my entertainment to board games and wondering why it is already 90 degrees in May…

The Top of McClure Pass.
