Caroline Graham: Aerospace Engineering Week Four

Week four was a very productive week. The MAXWELL gyroscopes were ordered and I wrote up an experiment similar to the test done on gyroscopes for the QB50 satellite in the past. The hang test will allow the accuracy of several triple axis gyroscopes to be analyzed. To do this, a camera and software will be used to track the gyroscopes actual velocity (degrees/sec), which will be compared to the data given by the gyroscope, through the Arduino. The data from each gyroscope will then be compared and graphed, showing which is the most accurate. I plan on running this experiment into next week. We also watched the Apollo 11 documentary with the office on the day before the 50th anniversary of the moon landing.

This week I was also able to watch a total shoulder replacement thanks to my previous host family. Jean got me in touch with an orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Koyonos, and I was able to view the surgery on Wednesday. It was an amazing experience and I am so grateful for it. This internship and the many great people involved have given me so many opportunities that I believe will truly impact my future.

The new host home is great, and is located very close to the lab. Carol and Mallory are awesome and Clara and I are so thankful that they’ve allowed us to live here.
