I have made it to Mystic CT and am just starting to get my feet wet so to say. It is a beautiful location in between the town of Groton and Stonington. It is a quaint little town that reminds me a lot of Telluride.

Other than the beautiful location, I get to work at a museum here called Mystic Seaport Museum. My week schedule is full to the MAX. I work the whole week doing a different task each day. This week I worked on categorizing ship plans really focusing on one vessel in particular called the LA Dunton. It is an old schooner that was originally used for fishing. I have spent a good deal of time this week in the shipyard learning what my duties were going to be as an intern here, getting all the background knowledge on this amazing vessel.

The last part of my week was spent on The WoodenBoat Show. All research and working was pretty much brought to the halt by the thousands of people attending the show here in the seaport. Boats were put on display all the way from powerboats to sailboats to row boats not excluding yachts. Each day this week was a little different. Sometimes it was busy… other times it was more laid back. I like the variety. This is a completely new environment for me. Other than my grandpa’s rowboat for lake fishing, I have never been around boats or ships. I have always lived in the mountains or in the midwest (Missouri). It’s fun to see something new, to get used to a completely different environment, and to figure out how to help tourists even though I am learning myself. Overall, It was very exiting to jump right in and hopefully in the time that I am here I get to experience some cool activities such as learning how to sail.
