This week at the Tybee Marine Science Center I learned a variety of different techniques and rules with the animals. I learned about how to feed the animals and take care of them while they are in captivity, and a little bit about what they eat when in the wild.

In my mornings I started off working in husbandry with all the animals. This has been my favorite part so far! I’m learning about the nutrients these animals need so that they can heal and grow and go back to the wild. I’ve also learned about how clean the water needs to be and how to make sure that is happening.

I’ve also been able to handle most of the animals now and I’m getting more responsibility with the jobs they are giving me.  I get to take care of the daily tasks and go fish for the jellyfish that we need to feed the cannonball jellyfish at the center, while I’m doing that I get to see the different environments of the water.

Away from the center I have gone to an ecology camp that taught about the animals of the surrounding islands. I also went to the aquarium of Charleston and got a behind the scenes tour to see where a bigger scaled has a sea turtle rescue and recovery program. I got to see at least 10 different sea turtles and their recovery paths. We then saw the albino alligator, and I learned how to tell a poisonous snake from a venomous one. Im learning an abundance about the different life of the islands and how they all work together.
