This week, we spent most of the time working out the kinks and errors that were possible reasons why HYDRA, the program that we are working on, wasn’t giving us readouts. We fixed all of the errors as you saw last week, but when we plugged it into everything, it was still giving us no readouts. There are multiple reasons why this is, and we still aren’t sure which is the correct one. First, we talked to our mentor about the problem and he said that it could possibly be because the voltages are different than the satellite it was used for before Maxwell.  This had us look up the voltages to make sure that every voltage is the registered transfer voltage. Another possibility is that it could be packet size. The reason that it could be packet size is because this time it has more sensors than the previous version of the code, resulting in a bit-size packet overload. It was viewed as a possible problem but was disregarded mostly because the program should be able to handle a large amount of bit data anyway. I found one other possible problem as well. When we were in the lab, I noticed that the compiler for the code wasn’t going through everything. A compiler is a tab that shows the program execute and go through each line in the program. It’s really useful to find problems in the code to see where they specifically went wrong. Anyways, the compiler wasn’t going through all of the code that it should have been because there are still some definitions of variables that are defined for the last satellite. This compiler was completely overlooked previously because we were receiving no problems with the code, and the program was giving constant updates to the output, even though there was no output. We fixed as many as we could find to new definitions, but there are still many items left. These possibly might both be problems, and we are working on getting these fixed at the moment.

On Saturday Mike and I met up with Jessica to go to Elitch Gardens to go ride roller coasters. We rode on as many as possible before the day ran out. Sadly, the weather changed a few times and closed a lot of the rides, but we still got all the rides in that we wanted to. We overall had a fun time and the internship is continuing to challenge our skills but interest and excite both of us.
