I’m sad to say this is my last week at Frazier Rehab, everyone here is so kind and I’m really going to miss my time here.  I really enjoy my time on the 9th floor, everyone is goodhearted and never discourage me from trying to learn how to do something and even better I appreciate how they believe in me to do new things.   These sessions have been a great part of my time here and in this week particular. I have been arriving earlier this week to try to help set up for the sessions and I am usually on three sessions daily. This week I’ve helped someone else learn how to run the standing session tracking program. Although main aspects of the program stay the same, moving between sessions with out STEM to those with STEM turns the session into a memory game where the only choice is to do it perfectly so trying to learn it is challenging at first.

I also attended the journal club meeting this Wednesday to discuss Neuromuscular scoliosis after SCI in children.  These are every week and are great discussions relevant to Frazier Research.

Also this week I have been able to watch two pilot experiments for an upcoming study. Although the experiments were rather lengthy, they were very interesting to see how STEM parameters are chosen and it helped me quantify their significance.

This week also I was able to observe an experiment with another mentor, the experiment was a full day starting around 8;30 till 6:30 for post-experiment procedures. The experiment was very interesting and I was able to learn a lot about study development and procedure along with the actual science being tested. I often spent time on the 15th floor where my mentor has trusted me to read over all the protocols and consent forms to update the website. I may have mentioned this in my past blog, but its worth mentioning again.  This week I’ve completed the majority of training videos possible (also mentioned in more detail in past blog).

I’m glad I was able to spend so much time with the engineering core, they were really great and this week we had a lot of interesting jobs. We adjusted the pulley system in a body weight system for the pediatric department’s treadmill.  And why buy 45 volt battery when you can make one? So we started that and it was great because I was able to practice soldering.  And amount other things, we worked on the details for new arm guards being built for a tilt table on the 11th floor.

I won’t spend the weekend in Louisville because my flight leaves early in the Morning Saturday. However Ellie and I were able to attend Water Front Wednesday. It was a great evening full of music by the river. Would recommend to anyone in Louisville during summer.

This Friday was fantastic! Every one was so great! They brought in breakfast and we all ate burritos and donuts together! We even had coffee in a box! I’m really going to miss them! Good bye Louisville! Until next time!
