Hey everyone my name is Nathalie Valenzuela and I attend Ouray High school. I’ll be here in arizona for four weeks. This is my first week here in Tucson where I am studying at the University of Arizona in the labs at the College of Medicine. I am Dr Katalin Gothard’s intern here in the Evelyn F. Mcknight Brain Institute. Dr Gothard’s research has to do with the emotional and behavioral neurological basis of rhesus monkeys.

My first assignment this week has been to edit videos that will be used in an upcoming experiment. The videos need to be cut down in length and I have to go frame by frame adjusting the mask that has been applied to ensure precision.  Its a very long and tedious task and I can’t be more thrilled about it!! Can’t wait for what else is in store.

I was picked up at the airport by my host family’s neighbor and brought to this beautiful house. This week my host family is in Iowa doing a biking marathon  which means I have this house all to myself this week. I’ve been very lucky to meet a lot of people that are close to my host family and they have incredibly sweet. They have taken me out to dinner, taken me grocery shopping and I already have a few movie nights under my belt! And lucky me Its been record heat this week in Tucson so having this pool just a few steps away has been blessing of its own.
