Our 3rd week at biochem core UCSD we continued to further explore different aspects of computational chemistry and more specifically look into what different properties of various proteins affect the effectiveness of different drugs. We were able to do this by studying the molecular dynamic simulations of these proteins and calculating things like the clustering of the similar movement patterns and studying positioning over time. Once we have this data we can graph it over the IC50 (effectiveness) of each drug that the protein has in it.

In the future, after we finish making these graphs for all of the different metrics for studying the proteins, we are going to use these graph, as long as there is a viable trend, to calculate the IC5o of drugs that we don’t know their IC50 already.

For fun this week Ry, Wynton, Emanuel, and I walked down to Blacks Beach, which is only a 5-minute walk from our house, just about every day after our internships. It was a great way to relax and take our mind off of the constant stream of new information we are getting from our internships. We also went out to eat at a fresh fish market which had the best ceviche there ever was.
