Thank you, North Shore

My last week at North Shore Research institute was a week for wrapping things up and interpreting my data.  At the start of the week I first finished fixing my plates of cells and I did the crystal violet staining on my plates so they could be read.  I also gave a presentation to my lab on what my project was and what my results were and what they mean.  Our results showed that the African American cells and the Caucasian cells were both effected positively by the CAF conditioned media, which is what we wanted to see.

Our results meant that the cells grew better in the media that was previously exposed to Cancer stromal cells, than they grew with regular media. These results tell us that the stromal cells do secrete a signal that tells the epithelial cells to grow more. We also found that the African American cell line that we used, grew significantly better than the LNCaP Caucasian cell line that we used, which was true with all the variables we tested.  I then gave a presentation on what my experiment was and what my results were and what they told us.

With my experiment completed and my presentation done, the rest of my week was slow and I took care of my cells every few days before I left and I cleaned up what I needed to.  My experience at NorthShore was life changing and I was exposed to many new and complicated things, and although it definitely was not the easiest experience it was something I will never forget and it was the best experience of my life, so far.  I can’t thank Pinhead and all my mentors at NorthShore enough, but I am very lucky to have been granted this opportunity and I am very grateful for it.
