This is my first blog post about my internship at ASU/MIX. It has been a very exciting week getting started working with all the lovely people here at the MIX labs, I have been working with the team that runs Camp Level Up and helping them with the technical side of things. On Monday I did do much as that was the day I traveled here to Arizona, but Tuesday was my first real day here that the MIX lab. on Tuesday I met with my mentors Bola and Tochi and was also introduced to my colleges whom I’d be working with for the next 3 weeks. On Tuesday as well I was also given a tour of the MIX building which blew my mind away, it has so many different facilities such as a Fabrication Lab where it has 3D printers, sanders, and lots of other materials for making whatever your heart desires. The MIX building also has plenty of computer labs for programming and film, speaking of film the MIX lab also has plenty of rooms for working on your film projects allowing your film to leave the building being Dolby Atmos certified. They also have a thing called Dreamscape where it is two sections one for entertainment and one for education, both sections consist of a VR setup with the entertainment section having interactive experiences and the educational section having different world for learning. Finally, after the tour of the MIX building, we went to go setup my laptop to work with the software I would be using Endstar, but that wasn’t without its issues as initially the platform wasn’t working on my device, and we had to leave it with IT to let them resolve the issue.

My second day at the MIX lab was also eventful. First thing in the morning I was given another loaner laptop to work on, and we managed to get it working with Endstar. Later that day I started working with Endstar which is a game development platform intended to help introduce people into the world of video game development, I was tasked with creating the introductory world for the campers, it is meant to introduce the camps kids into the platform and to give them and idea of what you can achieve with it. Finally, later that day we went down to the computer lab the camp would be using to see if it was in working order, but it wasn’t as it turned out you were not able to log into Endstar on any of the computers there, so we had to call IT down to help us resolve the issue.

My third day at MIX on Thursday was very informative as well. After having gotten settled down at my desk and done some work we all went to a training to learn how to work with kids who have ASD (autism spectrum disorder), who is the main population of the camp. As we went through the training, we learnt a lot of how to help and accommodate for some with autism. Finally, after the training I went back to work on creating the world where I got it nearly finished before it was time to go.

My fourth day here at MIX on Friday was much more relaxed than the previous three. All I did on Friday was finish up designing and creatin the introductory world to the camp and finished getting it ready for Monday which it the first day of the two-week camp.
