Hello everyone, reading this post!
A little bit of a recap of my first week at the Rainbow Youth Center (RYC). Starting, arriving Friday, I had gotten settled in my first home provided by Claire Carver. On Saturday, I assisted RYC at their dungeons and drag. I worked on setting up the event at Buckley Park in Durango, and once the event started, I assisted with registration and managed some of the activities offered. The event was phenomenal; the RYC team had worked extremely hard to bring it to fruition, and it was astonishing how well the event went, considering the diverse group of people and youth who participated. As the event died down and people began to leave, it was time to clean up and put things back in the trailers, marking the end of the event. Then, on the 9th of Monday, was my first day at the RYC, which was spent slowly, getting to know everyone, and exploring the RYC area. I had spent both Monday and Wednesday discussing with Beck, our Program Director, what exactly I am looking for in this internship. We set up a plan in which I would get some sessions with the RYC counselor. I am also partnering with Z, our Mental Health and Outreach specialist, in hopes of looking for more counselors. I am working with our assistant director in creating activities for our youth that delve into social and behavioral psychology, and so far, come up with a list, but still working through the details.

The bridge that connected Claires Home to town.

Visiting Durango has been an experience, to say the least. Considering the Rainbow Youth Center only works 3 days a week, I walked around Main Street at least 5 times a day, finding something to do, and I have certainly eaten a lot of the ice cream and ventured into different restaurants just to try new things. Thanks to the new people I have met through the connections with the RYC, I started going to town events that would appear, and tried to do the ones that felt appealing to me. I took the train to Silverton and back. I had a lot of fun, but I had fallen asleep in the middle of the ride. Durango feels like a bigger Telluride; everything is walkable, and places here give me the Telluride feeling. The only difference is that Durango has chain places; other than that, it feels like I never left home. Unfortunately, I don’t have a lot to discuss, and next week will be different for sure.

Second Host Home

Overall my second house is awesome, the house is pretty historic, in a why that it is more on the less modeled houses, and the house is nice and comforting, and the neighborhood is nothing but welcoming, and is only a few minutes away from RYC

Thank you to everyone for tuning in

Please tune in next week!
