Benjamin Carpenter OAIRE Week 6

This was my last week at OAIRE!! I was really disappointed that the six weeks were already up, but I have to admit it is nice to be back home. This week was really fun. To start the week off we got a tour of the propulsion laboratory on campus, which was really cool. We then finished RC-ifying our black foam glider. Unfortunately, the RC components we bought were not powerful enough to keep the glider in the air. It would have been a quick, simple fix, but we ran out of time in the internship. However, we did get to go out with a photographer and get some cool shots of the other gliders in action, so that was really fun. Then, on the last day, Rider and I gave a presentation to our mentor, Tanner, and the department head, Richie, on how they can improve the high school internship program for the future. They appreciated the feedback and mentioned some other ways that they are hoping to improve upon for future interns. We were supposed to fly the AREN kites this week, but this past week was unusually windless, so the flight was postponed. This meant the high school interns could not attend, but we still had a lot of fun working with them.

Overall, these past six weeks have been an incredible learning opportunity to see how actual engineering labs are structured and run, and I had a great time.
