This has been a bittersweet week; it was my fifth and final week at the University of Houston. It was extremely busy, as I was finishing all of the work that I had been working on. I created a few more films, but mostly focused on collecting data. After testing the four-point probe last week, I tested most of the films, collecting an average of resistances and then plotting them. I also collected some data about the roughness of the films using a laser that I set up. It wasn’t the most accurate measurement. However, I had a lot of fun creating it and using it. It uses a laser that reflects off of a sample to a
photodiode. When the sample is rougher, more light is scattered than reflected into the photodiode, which means that a lower voltage is produced. So based on the voltage, we can tell how rough the sample is. We decided to measure this because a few of the samples I made turned out very rough for no reason. Additionally, this week we had poster presentations open to the whole campus, and so most of the other time I spent making the poster. I was really trying to maximize everything this week. I went to the Rec Center every day, went to some of the restaurants on the other side of campus that I haven’t tried yet, and played games with all of the other kids in the program. I said goodbye to all of the new friends I made, and then on Sunday I flew back to Colorado. The flight was really exhausting as I had to stay up really late the night before as my flight got canceled at midnight. But I got a new flight and made it home. Thank you too Pinhead, Sarah Holbrooke, Steve Baldelli, and Sarah Ortiz for giving me this wonderful experience.
