Welcome back everyone to yet another blog!

This week was by far my favorite as we spent the days working towards obtaining our sUAS licenses! These would allow us to commercially fly drones that weigh between .55 and 55lbs!

I take the test for this license on Monday (July 7th) so wish me luck!

We spent both Tuesday and Wednesday at the Mike Morgan building. Where Ben and I had the honor of attending a sUAS class hosted by Chris Swan. Chris was incredible and had years of experience. He’s a certified sUAS instructor, pilot, and aircraft mechanic! Safe to say he knew what he was talking about. (Not that there was a doubt in my mind.)
I gotta say… that was a LOT of information but I loved it.

(Me at the Mike Morgan building with my sUAS test prep book!)

At the start of the class Chris announced a little “competition” for everyone. Whoever could get a 100% on the sUAS flight test would be treated to a steak dinner. You know for sure I’m going for that!

We went over everything. And when I say everything I mean EVERYTHING.

Weather conditions, driver data, forecast analysis, all the works. By the end of the two days my head was spinning but in a good way that makes you think long and hard about what you learned. The type that keeps information with you for a long time.

My one struggle during the classes was trying to understand weather. High pressure differential zones make your drone less efficient, and vice versa. These little things, added on top of a lot of other information, is still somewhat being processed. Even while writing this blog I have my prep book beside me going over questions.

Here’s one for you all!

1204. An increase in load factor will cause an unmanned aircraft to:
A. Stall at a higher airspeed.

B. Have a tendency to spin.

C. Be more difficult to control.

(answer at the bottom)

There are over a thousand different questions that I may have on my test. However, only 60 will be chosen for me. This means I have to study everything over again to ensure I’m prepared.

Wish me luck and have a good one!

Go Pokes!

(Me in front of the business building where they have water being misted about.)

(Review section on weather.)

( Answer was A. because: Stall speed increases in proportion to the square root of the load factor. Thus, with a load factor of 4, an aircraft will stall at a speed which is double the normal stall speed. (UA.IV.A.K1b) – FAA-H-8083-25)
