So far, I’ve been loving my time in Boston. It really is a great city, and I feel very privileged to be able to explore it. Right when I landed, I started exploring my neighborhood, finding my local stores and gym. The Wu Lab has also been great. The first day was a bit boring since I had to complete a bunch of online trainings, and the Harvard Wi-Fi was incredibly hard to access, but after that, things started to get really interesting.

My mentors, Laura and Fei, began teaching me about microscopy and the research they’ve been doing on telomeres. After that, they introduced me to a microscope, which I used to take pictures of stem cells using fluorescent dye on cell proteins to determine what stage of the cell cycle they’re in. I’m currently in the data analysis phase of the process, but I’m looking forward to tomorrow when I can start interpreting the images I took.

One day, the lab manager, Meira, took me and the other pintern, Kiera, to the Harvard Natural History Museum. They had amazing exhibits like fossils, cool rocks, and these delicate glass flowers that were so realistic you wouldn’t believe they were made of glass.

This weekend, I decided to explore a college I’ve always wanted to see: Boston College. The campus was beautiful, and overall, I really liked the school. I think I’ll look into applying there when I start the college application process.

So far, I’ve been loving my time in Boston, the city is incredibly charming, and I’m excited to keep learning in the lab so I can do more research.
