Hi everyone! So much has happened this week, both in and outside of the lab. I made progress on the Raman spectrometer and have started my poster board for next week. Because this is the last full weekend in Houston, we all filled our schedules....

Hello Everyone! Here is week 4! Disclaimer: Week 4 was extremely lackluster because our director chose to have the entire week off; as a result, I was left with a couple of things to do. Monday Through Thursday 30th - 3rd I went to the Colorado Office of Children, Youth,...

Hello everyone and welcome to my first blog for week 1 of my internship. I headed out to Denver on the 29th to start working on the 30th. On Monday, I got a tour of the building seeing the different departments, cardiology, oncology, surgery, and...

Hi everyone! This was my last week interning in public health with the Rodham Institute at Georgetown University. A lot of things outside of my internship took place this week, so I had a lot of free time, but I still made the most of...

Hello everybody and welcome to my first blog and first week of my internship. We arrived July 1st which happens to be my birthday and I started work the next day. I arrived at the UCSB Marine Science Institute in the afternoon where I met Bob Miller, my mentor, and he gave me a tour of the building and a bit of the campus. He took me and a graduate student out for lunch at a local Mexican place where we all got the know each other a bit better. Once we got back he introduced me to what was going to be my first task which was identifying and logging shells. I’m currently working on a spreadsheet design to make this process a bit easier and I should start the process of actually logging them on Monday of next week. In the meantime Bob loaned me a book I can study. While we didn’t get much work done this week, I did have the opportunity to go on a field trip to Pismo Beach with a college class. I couldn’t help much and unfortunately didn’t get any pictures but it was really fun to watch everyone catch sand crabs and compare them to the sand crabs here. When I first arrived on Tuesday the apartment wasn’t ready for me to move in so another girl and myself were put up in a very nice hotel temporarily. The first two days I ended up biking to work but decided it was a lot for me so I ended up walking instead. On Saturday the apartments were finally ready and Bob helped me move in. So far I’ve only gotten to meet one of my roommates but she seems really nice and I hope I fit in well here. I didn’t have much to do on Sunday, the 6th, so I decided to try a nearby cafe where I ordered a matcha latte and a delicious cheese with cream cheese bagel that I would highly recommend if anyone is in the Santa Barbra area. CAJÉ Coffee Roasters. So overall this week I didn’t get as much work done as I had originally planned but every opportunity has been wonderful and I’m so excited for the new opportunities that next week offers.   [caption id="attachment_25163" align="alignnone" width="300"] The spreadsheet I’m currently working on[/caption] [caption id="attachment_25154" align="alignnone" width="1920"] The book I’m studying[/caption] [caption id="attachment_25168" align="alignnone" width="300"] A beach view from nearby[/caption]

Hello everyone! This past week in Boston has again been a blast. In the lab, one of my mentors, Fei, showed me more about telomeres, which she is currently researching. She gave me a bunch of pictures of telomeres she had taken, and she told...

Hello everyone!! I'm Azari and I just completed my fourth week at Scripps Research.
