This week was a little interesting in terms of productivity, with it being my last week I was faced with time constraints on actions I could take to finish my project. With my solution to make MRS media a success I could continue ahead with isolation. While I was working on that I also had to find a time to meet with the lab manager to practice DNA extraction. So Monday was used to create plates with the whey I sampled and create VF with the whey. Tuesday and part of Wednesday were spent practicing extraction. So with only Thursday and Friday left to do anything meaningful I needed to hurry. Checking the plates I had incubating was a disappointment, no Lactobacillus was grown. With this news there was little I could do to remedy the situation, besides trying to grow the bacteria on a non-selective media and hope that the proper bacteria would grow. After attempting this solution and leaving it overnight to grow,The morning looked grim, and when I checked the plates, I still saw no colonies. Friday being the final day all I could do was finish my notes and give it to Bala who will have to continue the project by himself. Even though the week wasn’t the best, Bala and I ended up going to the beach on Saturday where we explored the area enjoying the views and looking for presents for our friends when we arrive home. I myself was able to find a gift for my dad and a sort of joke/prank gift for my brother. I hope that his reaction to it will be enjoyable.
