Fraizer Rehab Institute Week 5

Every week in the clinic brings a different pace and a new set of learning opportunities. This week taught me a lot about adaptability—how to navigate the slower moments, step up when things pick up, and keep building my clinical confidence.

Clinical Focus: Stepping Up in Test Sessions
This week, I was able to get hands-on with conducting test sessions while continuing to push my ongoing adaptive technology projects forward. Testing is such a crucial part of the process because accurate assessments lay the foundation for effective treatment plans. Getting to assist with these evaluations helped me better understand how we measure patient progress over time.

The Challenge: Handling Slow Starts
The biggest challenge I faced this week—at least early on—was dealing with a lack of tasks during downtime. When things are slow in a clinic, it can be tough to figure out how to stay productive. I had to practice taking initiative, finding small administrative or prep tasks, and remaining patient until the workflow picked back up.

The Big Win: Taking on More Sessions
My absolute favorite part of the week was getting the chance to lead and assist in more patient sessions! Once the schedule filled up, I was able to spend much more face-to-face time with patients. Being trusted with more active session work gave me a major confidence boost and reminded me how much I love the hands-on side of this work.

Weekly Takeaway
My biggest takeaway from these past few days is simple: patience is key. Whether you’re waiting through a quiet morning or working steadily toward a breakthrough with a patient during a session, learning to embrace the flow of the clinic makes all the difference.
