12 Jul Luke Fritsche RoSE Lab Internship Week 5

This week had a lot more hands on work on the rover

At work, we spent a lot of time assembling and testing prototypes for the bucket drum of the rover. We observed how the regolith moved inside and made necessary changes to attempt to fix it. We are very close to our target of 1.875 kg of regolith contained per drum, and hopefully will be able to reach that next week! We also worked on some software design stuff and began coding the rover as well as general work continuing on the other subsystems. I have gotten to know most of the people at the lab pretty well, and we always have a great time at work as well as outside. Next week, we are starting to prototype the subsystem that I mostly do, which is the wheels. I am very excited to go through a similar process as we did with the drums with the wheels. The rover is coming together well, and I’m looking forward to seeing where it goes from here.

Outside of work, we had a very fun week as well. We went to mini golf at the end of last week, and we found out none of us are very good at mini golf. It was still a great time regardless. My family came to visit this week as well, and I got to have fun tubing with my brother, walking around Golden, and going to some of the local restaurants, like Bob’s Atomic Burgers, which turned out to be one of the best burgers I’ve ever had. Yesterday (Saturday) we went bowling, and Evan smoked us with a score of almost 150 in one game. Gunnar Robinson and I went to the Heights church in Denver again today, and we plan to go to All You Can Eat Sushi tonight. As usual, I have continued to go to the Rec Center in Golden everyday, and it has been some of the best money I’ve ever spent, considering how many times I have gone throughout the internship. We are going into my last week of the internship now, and I am going to miss it it has been an incredible experience
