Clinical Focus & Breakthroughs: SATCO Research and Keeping Kids Engaged
A lot of my time this week was dedicated to SATCO (Segmental Assessment of Trunk Control) research, diving deeper into how we measure and support core stability in children. Alongside the research, I was tasked with a classic pediatric challenge: figuring out creative ways to keep a child’s attention during exercises!
My biggest breakthrough came during our active sessions when I got to help out with the simulator/stimulator. Being hands-on during that process and seeing how technology and engagement come together to help a patient was incredibly rewarding.
The Challenge: The Reality of Paperwork
Every clinical role has its hurdles, and mine this week was tackling the documentation and paperwork. It takes a lot of focus to ensure everything is filled out accurately and efficiently. While it might not be as thrilling as working directly with patients or high-tech equipment, I’m learning that thorough documentation is just as critical to high-quality patient care.
Recharging Outside the Clinic
I also made sure to enjoy some downtime outside of work this week! On Thursday, I went to see a fantastic theatre play, and yesterday I wrapped up the week by heading to the movies. Taking that time to unplug and do something fun was the perfect way to reset.
Weekly Takeaway
My ultimate takeaway from these past few days is that even a bad day can be a good day. Pediatrics can be unpredictable, paperwork can pile up, and things don’t always go perfectly—but finding the wins in the small moments changes your entire perspective.
