Judah Marty, Camp Level Up, Week 1

Hello! It’s crazy how fast the first week of my internship at Camp Level Up has flown by. This first week was all about training, and I had so much fun learning the software we’ll be using. We covered how to work with the kids and went over lesson plans for teaching them how to use Endstar  a really cool interactive game development platform and Unreal Engine, another game development platform focused more on 3D modeling. In Unreal Engine, we worked on creating a basic forest map; I tried my best to get a good picture of it!

It has been incredible meeting all the people I’m working with and I cant wait for the camp to start! Due to this week just being a training I was only in the lab for 3-4 hours a day this week leaving me lots of time to get out and explore the area. I visited the mesa contemporary arts museum which had a really interesting collection of contemporary works a few pieces in particular were truly beautiful.

I was also able to go on a stunning hike up the Piestewa Peak Summit Trail. It was about 2 miles total with 1,000 feet of elevation gain, and I reached the top just in time to watch the sunset over the city. The view was absolutely breathtaking.

Overall, this first week has been an amazing start to what I know is going to be an unforgettable summer. Between the training, the people I’ve met, and everything I’ve gotten to explore outside of work, I couldn’t have asked for a better introduction to this experience. I’m so excited to see what the coming weeks have in store!
