23 Jul Graham Soukup Astrophysics Week 6
For my Sixth week at LASP River and I kept working on the 3-d Printer all week long, we finally got the 3-d printer to work on my last day at LASP and began printing a module for SPRITE as seen below. While working on the 3-D printer I finished cleaning the screws, washers, and other parts for SPRITE that is going to be launched next year. These parts will be taken into a clean room where they will be installed into different instruments which will be shot up in SPRITE next year. After finishing cleaning the aluminum parts on Wednesday I began my new personal project. With the help of my mentor Dmitri Voribeiv I created 7 rings to take home and give to my family and friends. It was a lot of work and critical thinking which I was not expecting and took lots of patience and motivation to finish them. I began using the Mill press to drill holes into the cylinders of aluminum I cut with the saw press and then screwed them into a rotating press. (as seen below) using this press I was able to shave down the sides of the rings to the size I desired. Then using a 3/4 inch drill piece I very very slowly drilled bigger holes into the Mill. Once done with all seven rings I then used a very intense sanding machine to finish the rings and added my finishing touches. Making these rings were very hard and took a lot of time and energy which I was not expecting, but I am very proud of my finished product and I am very happy to be heading home. The Internship taught me a lot about myself and how to make better decisions in the future. Working at LASP was also very interesting. Learning about Astrophysics and engineering was one thing I always wanted to experience first hand and I was finally able to thanks to Pinhead. I am very excited to see where I will go and what I will do in the future!
