Bridge Camp prepares kids to think like engineers through a fun, creative, hands-on learning experience that culminates in building a real bridge! Working with engineers the students will learn about the principles of building strong structures, test what they learn by constructing test bridges, and then bring it all together to build a real bridge with the help of the Town of Telluride.

If you like solving mysteries and getting your hands dirty, this is the camp for you! An exploration of all things archaeology, we’ll learn how to properly excavate a site to avoid damaging artifacts, reconstruct pottery from shards, and form hypotheses from our uncovered evidence!

STEAM WEEK: Experimental Art
July 11-14, 2022, 9:30AM – 12:30PM for Ages 10-13 OR 1:30PM – 4:30PM Ages: 7-9 • Location: Ah Haa
Play with marbled paper, crystal gardens, explosion paintings and more in this STEAM-themed camp. Students will tinker with a variety of materials and conduct experiments that result in beautiful works of art. From plant monsters to wind chimes, this class is sure to inspire fans of art and science alike.
COLOR SCIENCE
July 25-29, 2022, 9:30AM – 12:30PM for ages 10-13 • Location: Pinhead HQ
Explore the world of color in this class that blends the line between art and science. We’ll explore the physics of light, art of mixing paint, and color theory principles to blend colors in a whole new way. Through reflection, refraction, movement, shadows, and combinations, we will observe how color interacts with and influences the world around us. Students will come away with skills to create contemporary, high-end works of art through drawing, painting, and experimentation.

Calling all ants, beetles, butterflies, and more! Join the world of insects this Summer in this STEAM-themes camp. Participants will explore and discover this miniature world of diversity. Explore the biologies and behaviors of a number of different species, from pollinators to invasive insects. Explore Telluride’s Wetlands, craft your own wearable insect wings, create and add to your own insect journal, invent your own insect, and much more!

KITCHEN SCIENCE
July 18-21, 2022 • Ages: 5-7 • Tuition: $870/student
Do you love to experiment – creating cool culinary concoctions or bubbling potions and chemical combustion? Let’s get messy with mad scientists at the Pinhead Institute as we explore the world of science with unique hands-on kitchen science experiments along with a few edible delights. Design your own lab coat and then grab your goggles because it’s about to get messy! When we’re not working in our kitchen laboratory, we’ll explore the natural world around us, build forts in the woods and race creek boats down the river!
BLAST OFF!
June 27-30, 2022 • Ages: 8-10 • Tuition: $830/student
Blast Off is an “out of this world” adventure that will take you to the cosmos and beyond! Spend a spectacular week exploring the far reaches of our backyard and beyond our solar system. We’ll gaze into distant galaxies, experiment with different methods of power and propulsion, and learn the risks and rewards of rocketry with a real space scientist from the Pinhead Institute! Cosmonauts will even spend a portion of each day designing, perfecting, and building their very own rockets. Our grand galactic finale will be a rocket launching party for friends and family. Let the countdown begin!
CAMP ROCK
July 25-28, 2022 • Ages: 9-11 • Tuition: $840/student
Camp Rock! Explore the wonderful world of sound and music in this NEW Telluride Academy – Pinhead Institute collaboration. Participants will create their own instruments, learn about the science of sound, learn new music and start a band! When we aren’t rockin’ out to the sounds of our musically talented friends, we’ll participate in classic outdoor adventures in the alpine. We’ll even spend a night under the stars, enjoying camp cuisine and singing songs around the fire. Our week will culminate with an outdoor concert for our friends and family. No experience necessary! Join us for a jam-packed week of melodies, jingles, tunes and a whole lot of fun!
OPUS ODYSSEY
Aug 1-5, 2022 • Ages: 10-12 • Tuition: $1400/student
Odyssey (n): A long and eventual journey or experience; an intellectual or spiritual wandering or quest. Join us for this all NEW program as we venture to the hidden Opus Hut for a collaborative, educational and outdoor adventure experience. Nestled high in the pristine San Juan Mountains, atop the famous “Ophir Pass” is the mystical Opus Hut. Here, students will live in a quaint mountain lodge that is fully equipped with a kitchen, lounging areas, and cozy sleeping quarters! With instructors from both Telluride Academy and the Pinhead Institute, this immersive week-long adventure of high-alpine, off-the-grid living will include a variety of experiential and science-based workshops. We’ll use the surrounding wilderness to learn about safe mountain travel, participate in outdoor science experiments, test out different navigation techniques and practice the art of team-building and outdoor leadership. It is here, in our outdoor classroom, that students will acquire skills for a future of adventures and inquiry-based learning. We will also leave plenty of room for massive backcountry meals, sunset story-telling, silly games and lots of laughs! Don’t miss this opportunity to journey into the world of outdoor adventure and learning!

Full tuition less a $20 administrative fee will be credited to your account when cancellations occur 14 days or more before a class begins. No refund will be given when a cancellation is made less than 14 days before a class begins. Class transfers are subject to the same restrictions as cancellations, and a $20 administrative fee will apply. All classes are subject to minimum enrollment numbers; full refunds will be issued for any class canceled by the Pinhead Institute.
