I’m Danita Miles and I’m a intern at UCSB (University of California Santa Barbara). I work with the REEF (The Research Experience & Education Facility) program under the supervision of Scott Simon. My current mentors have not been chosen yet, seeing as Scott wants to match me with the right people.I have been working with the Emma who is the abalone specialist, and also with Nora the lead aquarist, along with a couple of interns from the university. So far I had to complete my IACUC (Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee) training as REEF is a federally funded program.
I have also been
helping with programs showing the animals we currently have, and feeding and cleaning the fish tanks. I also have the chance to help with the endangered black and white abalones. The internship is amazing so far and I get to learn more and more each day!
