This week in the lab, I spent most of my time working on my project. I’m preparing to give a presentation to the lab on my research on telomeres, so much of my focus was on coding for data analysis. I’ve really enjoyed the coding process, frustrating as it can be at times, there’s nothing quite like the satisfaction of finally getting your code to work.

One day, my mentor Fei gave us a lecture on super-resolution microscopy technology. She walked us through the techniques she’s familiar with and even brought in another researcher from the lab to share a method he has experience with. Super-resolution microscopy is fascinating because it allows scientists to bypass the diffraction limit of light by manipulating fluorescence and using advanced imaging technologies. Outside of the lab, we had a chance to visit the Museum of Fine Arts, thanks to our lab manager. The museum was incredible, it housed so much valuable and historic artwork. A lot of the pieces were very old, which meant there was also plenty of fascinating history behind them.

Over the weekend, I tried to attend a Red Sox game, but I wasn’t allowed to bring my backpack into the stadium. I decided I’d just come back another day, there are games almost every night. Instead, I headed over to the Boston Public Garden again. I love spending time there, it’s such a peaceful place in the city, and sometimes it just feels good to touch some grass. I still really want to see Fenway Park, so hopefully I’ll be able to catch a game next week.

Overall, it’s been a great week, and I’m starting to feel a little sad that my internship is coming to an end. I’ve grown to really like Boston. While I’ll be happy to see my friends and family again, I think I’m going to miss this city.
