Welcome back for week 2 of my internship here at OSU!

This week has been full of interesting and fun activities that I’ve participated in!
I’ve had the honor of working on everything for UAVs to Composite layups!

This past week we had a intense focus on Composite layups and data recording software. For example: with our mentor, Tanner, we had the fun time of working at the Engineering North building here at OSU. This building is home to a Instron machine. It’s a large device that allows you to measure the tensile strength of certain materials by stretching them apart.

We tested two different types of material. Composite fiberglass layups and carbon fiber layups. Both had varying layers of strength. The fiberglass, which usually snapped at a total of 600~ pounds of force. Meanwhile, the carbon fiber demonstrated the ability to pick up a car, only snapping after reaching a total of 8000~ pounds of force.

To finish out the week Ben and I had the honor of fixing the laboratory’s foam cutter! This took us a few hours as we had to cut and fit a metal frame to ensure the machine stayed still while it was being used.

For mere fun I decided I had the munchies at 11:43 pm… And in turn I took a short trip to a nearby cookie store. MIDNIGHT COOKIE RUN! The cookies were delicious and I’m for sure going back again (probably at midnight) and no one can stop me.
