Hello everyone!

Here is week 2 of working with the Rainbow Youth Center! (RYC)

Monday 16th

Monday was a relaxed day, and I made sure to read up on some psychology in textbooks I could find, as well as research on human behavior.

Tuesday 17th

Z, our outreach specialist, had brought me with him to meet up with one of the therapists here in Druango in hopes of partnering and giving insight on the event that Z is planning. The therapist gave me insight into the things they do for work, which consisted of working with authorities and a private practice. The therapist had also given insight into the amount of work that gets put in, an example being how do we as people provide help, and being a person who is qualified to give help is to put your privilege away and not give people the same advice, because of the differences between everyone. It’s extremely small things, and during this meet-up, I learned about the work I wanted to do. After the meetup, Z showed me around Fort Lewis College, and I got to experience very little of college life there. Z had shown me the Center of Southwest Studies, and I admired the exhibits they had up and how the building wanted to preserve indigenous history, and thanks to the area and bookstore. After that, I went back up and looked at the Psychology department and explored there for a while. Unfortunately, since it was summer, not a lot of people were there, so I couldn’t ask questions, but overall it was a nice place to be, and maybe a place I want to be someday

Wednesday 18th

I arrived at RYC, and I continued a bit of clean up, and also sorting a bit of papers. The director had provided me with books on mental health and used those throughout the day and the rest of the week. Today was also slow, but considering that Juneteenth was coming the next day and the RYC was going to be closed, all of the youth and staff watched a video on the history of racism, discrimination, and the history of Juneteenth and where the holiday came to be. After the day was over, I had retreated to a coffee shop and worked on the books that were provided to me.

Thank you so much for turning in

Come back next week!
