Hi everybody! I’m Ben and I just finished my second week at OAIRE. This week unfortunately, much like last week, wasn’t as fast as I was hoping that it would be. I did a lot of grunt work around the lab, and a project we were going to start working on was postponed due to a water line break. Our building was fine, but a few other labs on campus were flooded. This meant the man we were going to work with had to deal with that all week, so we were unable to start our project. We did start repairing a hot wire cutter, and we are going to use that machine to build something in the near future (I forgot to ask what we’d be doing). I worked a lot with more composites, and while they are fun, they take a long time to do, and they have to be done with a lot of precision or they won’t come out properly. We had to redo a composite layup twice before it set properly. On the AREN project, we are creating miniature versions of our kite tails in order to test them and collect data. The full sized kite tails we have are anywhere from 10 to 15 feet long, so they will not fit in the 2ft by 2ft wind tunnel that we have. We also received some new Kestrel weather monitors, so I got to mess around with those and calibrate them.
This week, while busy, was still fun, and I can’t wait till next week when I can start working on some larger projects. See you all next week!
