TOPICS

April 25: ISLANDS
From Madagascar, to Tasmania, to the Galapagos, remote islands have incredibly diverse ecosystems that give rise to many unique species. During this lab we’ll explore how species arrive on islands, and how island life influences biology, anatomy, and behavior.

May 2: ANATOMY
Muscles, tendons, ligaments, organs, and more! In this lab, we’ll examine the anatomy of the human body to understand how we’re able to jump, run, eat, sleep, and ski. We’ll reveal some of the amazing characteristics of our own bodies, and see why it’s important to take care of ourselves.

May 9: ENGINEERING
Design, construct, test… redesign, reconstruct, retest… repeat! Taking notes from the infrastructure around us, we’ll create our own buildings, bridges, and more to challenge and refine our engineering skills.

May 16: KNOTS
‘Knot’ to fear- we’ll learn all about knots in this Mad Labs. From the best knots for shoe tying to the figure eight, we’ll look at and test various knots to discover which are strong, which are easily undone, and which are most beautiful. While we’re at it, we’ll also analyze rope materials and test their strength.

May 23: GEOLOGY ROCKS!
Come outside with us and and explore the geology of the Telluride area. From exploring the Permian red rocks at the base of the valley, to looking at the remnants of an ancient caldera, to the learning how to identify Telluride Conglomerate, this Mad Labs will rock!

May 30: SOUND
Have you ever heard a record played through your teeth? In this Mad Labs you will as we learn all about sound waves and how we hear.
