Science Soiree

Pinhead’s Science Soiree lets you engage with scientists participating in our esteemed Scholars in the Schools program which enables students from schools throughout the region to interact with PhD scientists from around the world specializing in everything from nanoscience, to chemistry, tobiology, to climatology, and much more. Our scientists lead labs, workshops, and field expeditions for students in grade school through high school.

Featuring Dr. Ron Estler, Fort Lewis College

The pressure is on!  Dr. Estler will be on hand to speak about his fun and educational student presentation "Under Pressure: Fun with Air and No Air."  Dr. Estler will also tell us why he got into science, and why he made the choice to leave a prestigious teaching position at USC to teach instead at Fort Lewis, and why teaching science to kids of all ages is an important passion of his.

Dr. Ron Estler has a Ph.D. in Chemical Physics from The Johns Hopkins University.
With Postdoctoral work at Stanford and Columbia Universities, Dr. Estler was named Colorado Professor of the Year in 2009 by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education and the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching.

Featuring Dr. Andrew Berry, Harvard University

Where do we come from? Dr. Andrew Berry will be on hand to speak about the mysteries of human evolution at our first Science Soiree of the season.

Dr. Andrew Berry has a degree in zoology from Oxford University and a PhD in evolutionary genetics from Princeton University. He was a Harvard Junior Fellow, and is still at Harvard where he is currently Lecturer on Organismic & Evolutionary Biology. Combining the techniques of field biology with those of molecular biology, his work has been a search for evidence at the DNA level of Darwinian natural selection.
